How is the OuiCycle made?

The OuiCycle is a quadricycle: a vehicle with 4 wheels that you move by pedalling. An electric motor helps the people who pedal. The bike has 4 separate sets of pedals, so everyone pedals at their own speed. This page explains how the bike is made and what it can do.

The main features of the bike

  • The bike has 4 separate sets of pedals. Each person pedals at their own speed, without getting in the way of the others.
  • The sets of pedals have no chain. They turn generators: they change your pedalling into electricity.
  • The roof is covered with solar panels. It measures 3 m² and gives 420 Wp. Wp means watt-peak: it is the power of the panels when the sun is strongest. This roof charges the battery while the bike is moving.
  • The seats can be adjusted for people from 1.55 m to 1.95 m tall. Each place has straps and a seatbelt.
  • The bike has a windscreen with a wiper, two mirrors, a light inside the cabin, hydraulic brakes and 4 separate suspensions.

A small bike, prepared over many years

  • The bike is 3.50 m long, 1.75 m high and 1.00 m wide.
  • The bike can travel 40 km at most before you charge the battery. This is called the range.
  • The battery holds 2.4 kWh of electricity. It also charges when the bike brakes and when it goes down a hill.
  • The bike has two motors of 250 W in total. This is the rated power, which means the normal power for everyday use.
  • It takes 6 minutes to change the bike: you go from 4 people pedalling to carrying children.

One bike, two ways to arrange it

  • The bike has two configurations. A configuration is a way of arranging the seats on board.
  • You change from one configuration to the other on the spot, without big tools.
  • Configuration 1, four pedallers: up to 4 adults pedal, plus 3 children or 1 adult on a private road. The bike goes 25 km/h at most. The motor stops helping above this speed.
  • Configuration 2, carrying children: 2 adults and 7 children come on board, which makes 9 people on the road and 11 people on a private road. The bike goes between 15 and 20 km/h, because an electronic system stops it going faster.
  • A private road is a path or a piece of land that is not open to traffic.

What makes the OuiCycle move

  • You pedal and an electric motor helps you. This help is called electric assistance. It follows your pedalling, it does not replace it.
  • The bike has two hub motors, which means motors placed inside the wheels. Their power is 250 W.
  • The bike goes between 15 and 25 km/h, depending on the configuration. It climbs slopes of up to 12% by going more slowly. It goes backwards up to 6 km/h.
  • The 2.4 kWh battery gives a range of 35 to 40 km. The solar roof and the braking charge it during the ride.
  • The driver sits at the front, on the left. A 3.5-inch screen shows them the energy of the bike. The turning radius is 5 m: it is the space the bike needs to turn.

A bike designed for safety

  • The OuiCycle is a VAE, which means a bike with electric assistance. You do not need a driving licence.
  • The bike is easy to see on the road. It has automatic dipped headlights, side lights and brake lights, and six indicators with a sound signal: 2 at the front, 2 at the back and 2 on the sides. It also has reflectors, which send back the light of car headlights.
  • The driver stays in control. They have a hazard light button, a horn, two mirrors, a wiper and a parking brake that holds the bike still.
  • Getting on board is made easier for people with reduced mobility (PMR). Each place has straps and a seatbelt. There are child seatbelts with some configurations.
  • The OuiCycle is designed and assembled in France by the company France Quadricycle. This information is given as a guide and it can change depending on the version of the bike.
