Getting back in motion, together!

This page is written in Easy Read English, with short sentences and simple words.

Les Roues Solidaires is a cycle therapy service. We come to your facility with a big group bicycle. Your residents go outside, pedal and enjoy the fresh air. The activity is good for the body, the senses, the mind and the social life - all at once.

01

A big group bicycle, made for everyone

  • Our bicycle is called the OuiCycle. It is designed and built in France.
  • The bicycle has 4 wheels. It is very stable and rides on cycle paths.
  • Three riders pedal together, with a driver in front and a carer if needed.
  • Each person pedals at their own pace. An electric motor helps when it gets hard.
  • The seats are comfortable and easy to access for people with reduced mobility.
02

How does a ride work?

  • The driver arrives 30 minutes before the ride to get the bicycle ready.
  • He talks with your team to choose the right route.
  • The ride lasts between 1 hour and 1 hour 30. The driver stays with the group.
  • The route can pass by a park, a market, a riverside or a place full of memories.
  • Back at the facility, the group talks about the ride. The driver writes down useful notes.
03

Who is it for?

  • For older people who live in care homes (EHPAD) or independent living homes.
  • For people with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's or after a stroke.
  • For children and adults with a disability, in care centres for young people (IME), MAS or day centres.
  • For lonely people followed by a CCAS (local social service) or a Sport-Health Centre.
04

Why is it useful?

  • Gentle pedalling keeps the muscles and the joints active.
  • Seeing, hearing and smelling the outside wakes up the senses.
  • Recognising streets and places helps the memory work.
  • Going out with others breaks loneliness. People talk, laugh and share.
  • After the ride, sleep is better and the mood is calmer.

Voices recorded during a Les Roues Solidaires session (facilitators and residents).

We combine the useful and the enjoyable - sport with the social side, and a bit of discovery, exploration, seeing the town again.

Yeah, to keep investing in life and enjoying good moments - it's wonderful.

- So, are you enjoying it? - Yes!

When I was young, my parents bought a mini-bike for me and my sister. I didn't know how to brake, I went headfirst - I never rode a bike again after that.

- The pedalos! - Ah, the pedalos!

- There you go, they're tired. - Pedalling is tiring.

- So, was it good? - Yes. - Not too tired? - No. - Shall we do it again? - Yes. - Alright, let's do it again then.

- Wonderful! Go for it! - I had a great time.

I think it also helps with self-esteem, and with staying invested in life - for yourself, but also socially.

That's it. Staying alive.

- What shall we sing? - I don't know.

Designed for vulnerable populations (residents and people receiving home-based care), supervised by trained professionals, Les Roues Solidaires makes it possible to move and build community in a safe and measurable framework.

Each ride becomes a support for adapted physical activity, cognitive stimulation and social connection, for their well-being.

Our approach ↘

The Three pillars of our approach

Health & prevention

  • Adapted physical activity
  • Gentle mobility
  • Prevention of sedentary behavior
  • Prevention of loss of autonomy

Social bonds & inclusion

  • Building bonds between residents
  • Fighting isolation
  • Cultural and leisure outings

Local territorial project

  • Integration into facility projects
  • Complementarity with CCAS / Sport-Health Centers / local authorities
Our commitments ↘

A more human vision of mobility

Three simple commitments that guide every choice, from the vehicle to deployment.

Accessible & safe

A vehicle designed for vulnerable audiences, a trained driver-facilitator, dedicated insurance and operation on cycle paths.

Inclusive & collective

We climb aboard together, at each one's pace, and nobody is left behind. The shared ride creates bonds between residents, caregivers, families and locals.

Frugal & sustainable

A vehicle ten times more energy-efficient than a small electric city car, made in France, eco-designed, repairable and durable.

The spark ↘

A shared moment that changes everything

A smile that returns.

A forgotten sensation reborn.

The simple pleasure of being outside, moving, together.

Those who ride often say it better than we can:

« We pedal to paradise, but together, it's extraordinary. »

Dominique, resident at an Emeis nursing home

« Today, life is beautiful - shall we do it again tomorrow? »

« I feel alive again! When's the next ride? »

« Cycling, like in my childhood - unforgettable. »

Join the adventure ↘

Shall we move forward together?

Caregivers, local authorities, funders, everyday allies: this project grows thanks to the people who believe in it. Whatever your role, we can't wait to meet you.
